Bali with 6 Kids: The Villas That Actually Work

Sarah & Steve 8 min read

Bali is one of those destinations that sounds like a terrible idea with six children — and turns out to be one of the best decisions we've ever made. Here's everything we learned.

Why Bali Works for Big Families

The villa culture in Bali is perfectly suited to large families. Unlike hotels, a private villa gives you your own pool, your own kitchen, your own pace. The staff-to-guest ratio is extraordinary, and most villas come with a dedicated butler who will quietly make everything work.

The Villas We Recommend

After three trips, we've stayed in seven different villas across Seminyak, Ubud, and Canggu. Our gold standard is a 5-bedroom property in Seminyak with two pools, a games room, and a chef who makes the most extraordinary nasi goreng you've ever tasted — and chicken nuggets without judgment.

Getting There

The flight from London is long — around 16 hours with a connection. We always fly business class with the kids on long-haul. The Flights Club consistently finds us the best rates, and the difference in arrival energy is worth every penny.

What to Do

Ubud's rice terraces, the Sacred Monkey Forest, cooking classes at a local warung, surfing lessons in Kuta for the older kids, and the most extraordinary spa treatments for the adults. Bali rewards the curious and the adventurous at every age.
